Vol. 454 No. 1

Written Answers. - Teacher Appointments.

Máirín Quill

Question:

34 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to remove the restrictions on the inclusion of pupils attending vocational preparation and training programme courses for the purposes of permanent whole-time appointments of teachers; and if she can say when her Department will be able to sanction such appointments. [10226/95]

The restriction on the inclusion of pupils attending vocational preparation and training programme courses for the purpose of permanent whole-time appointment of teachers in post-primary schools was removed by my Department in 1992.

Since then my Department has sanctioned many permanent whole-time appointments in respect of VPTP enrolments provided the following conditions were met: (a) the person proposed for appointment is fully qualified for permanent appointment; (b) the VPTP course has been in existence for at least two consecutive years; and (c) the school authorities are satisfied that the course is likely to be required for the future.
