Written Answers. - Pilot Renewal Scheme.

Tony Killeen

Question:

90 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Finance if he will recommend Lisdoonvarna for inclusion in the pilot renewal scheme for traditional resort areas in 1996. [10946/95]

Trevor Sargent

Question:

94 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Finance if the town of Balbriggan, County Dublin, will be considered under the next pilot relief scheme for certain seaside resort areas. [10660/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 90 and 94 together. The aim of the Pilot Renewal Scheme for Traditional Seaside Resorts is to renew and upgrade the facilities and amenities catering for tourists in certain traditional seaside resort areas. This definition would preclude non-coastal resorts from inclusion in the scheme. Furthermore, as the scheme is of a pilot nature and is not due to commence until 1 July, it would be premature to speculate as to any future developments with regard to designations until the scheme has been established and some evaluation made of its progress.
