Vol. 454 No. 3

Written Answers. - Acquisition of Historic Gardens.

Tony Gregory

Question:

111 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if consideration will be given to the acquisition by the State of Shackleton House and Gardens, Clonsilla, Dublin 15, in view of their unique character. [10500/95]

In a reply to Parliamentary Question No. 76 on this matter on 18 May 1995, I stated that, while sharing the Deputy's interest in the future of these historic gardens, priorities for State intervention must be established, and that I had requested the advice of the National Heritage Council in relation to the priority to be assigned in this instance.

I have made a submission to the Minister for Finance which takes into account the opinions of the National Heritage Council which I have just received.
