Vol. 454 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Wicklow Garda Manpower.

Ivor Callely

Question:

137 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice if she will give details of the Garda manpower levels in County Wicklow; if she has satisfied herself that adequate Garda services are available; the proposals, if any, she has to increase manpower or any other improvements; the timescale involved; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10701/95]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that Garda districts in County Wicklow do not correspond to county boundaries.

I am also informed by the Garda authorities that County Wicklow is served by three Garda Divisions — Wexford (Wicklow and Gorey Districts), Carlow-Kildare (Baltinglass District) and Dublin Metropolitan East (Bray District). The present strength of the individual districts concerned is as follows:

Wicklow

48

Gorey

68

Baltinglass

51

Bray

146

Total

313

The Garda authorities are responsible for the allocation of manpower and resources to individual areas. They inform me that optimum use is being made of existing resources and that the policing service to the public in County Wicklow is adequate. However, the situation will be kept under review by the Garda authorities and any adjustments required will be made.
