Vol. 454 No. 4

Written Answers. - Limerick Hospital Status.

Liz O'Donnell

Question:

114 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Health the plans, if any, he has to grant Limerick Regional Hospital University Hospital status; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11001/95]

Limerick East): Limerick Regional Hospital has statutory links with University College, Cork in relation to medical education and training and is a teaching hospital at UCC. It recently entered into a partnership arrangement with the University of Limerick for the development of a Diploma in Nursing Studies. Linkages have been developed between the Mid-Western Health Board and University College, Galway in relation to general practitioners' training schemes.

Additionally, there are other linkages — both in place and developing — with the universities. At present, the Mid-Western Health Board is concentrating on developing such university linkages as are mutually appropriate and advantageous.
