Vol. 455 No. 1

Written Answers. - Disease Levies.

Hugh Byrne

Question:

151 Mr. H. Byrne asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the amount by which disease levies paid by farmers will be reduced in 1995 if EU funding toward the TB eradication scheme is drawn down. [11794/95]

Any reduction in bovine diseases levies will depend inter alia on the level of EU funding received from the Commission, the ongoing operating costs of the eradication scheme (including the number of reactors disclosed during the course of the testing programme), and the share out of costs between the Exchequer and farmers. It is not possible at this stage to say the extent to which the rate of the disease levies could be reduced. Furthermore, it should be noted that EU funding approved for 1995 will not be received until 1996.
