Vol. 455 No. 1

Written Answers. - Rural Environment Protection Scheme.

Hugh Byrne

Question:

152 Mr. H. Byrne asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the measures, if any he will take to improve farmers' participation in the rural environment protection scheme; and if he will introduce a menu-type approach to facilitate greater participation by farmers. [11795/95]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Questions Nos. 28, 94, 100, 111 and 276 of 20 June 1995.

The scheme was drawn up with the specific aim of ensuring that participating farmers manage all of their land in an environmentally friendly manner.

I am satisfied that a menu-type approach would not be as effective from an environmental view point.
