Question:

98 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Education the existence, if any, of a course which allows students with a Bachelor of Arts Degree to qualify to teach in primary schools; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11661/95]

A full time post-graduate course to train 180 persons with approved third level degrees, including BAs, as primary teachers commenced in four colleges of education in early 1995 and will conclude in mid 1996. It is also open to degree holders who meet the relevant conditions to compete for admission to the ordinary three year course leading to the B.Ed. degree in the colleges of education for primary teachers.
