Vol. 455 No. 4

Written Answers. - Proposed Centre for Deaf Studies.

Mary Wallace

Question:

114 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Education if she has met the Irish Deaf Society in relation to its proposal for the establishment of a Centre for Deaf Studies in Trinity College; her views on whether the centre would have considerable benefits in return for a relatively modest outlay; if she will support the proposal; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12383/95]

I have not met the Irish Deaf Society in relation to its proposal for the establishment of a Centre for Deaf Studies in Trinity College. I understand that Trinity College Dublin is in discussions with the society regarding the establishment of a Centre for Deaf Studies.

However, no proposal has been received either in the Higher Education Authority or in my Department in connection with this project. I am, therefore, not in a position to offer any view on the matter.
