Vol. 455 No. 4

Written Answers. - Prisoner Transfers.

Tony Gregory

Question:

36 Mr. Gregory asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will make representations to the British authorities on behalf of the two Irish prisoners (details supplied) who wish to be transferred to Irish jails. [12198/95]

I am aware of the case of the two prisoners referred to in the Deputy's question. I understand that they are included in a group of six prisoners who have been informed by the British authorities that their applications for a transfer to Northern Ireland have been approved.

In view of the importance of the transfer issue to prisoners and their families, I have consistently urged the British authorities to ensure that the procedures operate as speedily and flexibly as possible. I will continue to monitor progress in this and other cases.
