Vol. 455 No. 4

Written Answers. - Tax Clearance Certificates.

Séamus Hughes

Question:

41 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Finance the number of publicans who have obtained tax clearance certificates in each year since the introduction of tax clearance requirements without first clearing their full liabilities by entering agreements to pay those liabilities on a phased basis; the number who have had to renegotiate original agreements; and the estimated amount now outstanding and unpaid on foot of those agreements. [12231/95]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that their records are not kept in a format that would enable them to readily produce the information sought by the Deputy. The commissioners have also informed me that a systematic examination of all cases would be necessary to produce the data sought and that such an examination would involve considerable official time and expense, the cost of which would be disproportionate to the results. However, the commissioners are in the process of developing a data base that will enable them to produce the type of data sought in the future.
