Vol. 455 No. 4

Written Answers. - Surgery Delays.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

52 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the waiting lists at James's Hospital, Dublin 8, for treatment for varicose veins; the plans, if any, he has to provide the necessary resources in order to target these waiting lists; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12168/95]

Limerick East): The Deputy will be pleased to hear that the 1995 waiting list initiative, details of which I announced in the Dáil last week, includes vascular surgery as one of the target specialties where those on waiting lists will benefit. St. James's Hospital will receive an allocation of £530,000 for additional procedures, including the treatment of varicose veins. I am confident that these measures will help to build on the progress already achieved under the previous two waiting list initiatives, and will further reduce waiting times in the specialty areas targeted.
