Vol. 455 No. 5

Written Answers. - Aer Rianta.

Ivor Callely

Question:

118 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications when Aer Rianta was established; and the initial equity that was invested. [12461/95]

Aer Rianta was established on 5 April 1937, in pursuance of the Air Navigation and Transport Act, 1936, which provided for the formation of a limited company to serve as a holding company for Aer Lingus, and later Aerlinte. The 1936 Act provided for the taking up of shares of the company by the Minister for Finance, subject to the total value of such shares not exceeding £1 million.

The Air Companies Act, 1966, transferred Aer Rianta's shareholding in Aer Lingus/Aerlinte to the Minister for Finance. This Act provided for authorised share capital of £60,000 for Aer Rianta and for issued share capital of £51,261.
