Written Answers. - Late Payment of Increases.

Question:

122 Mr. M. Ahern asked the Minister for Defence the increases due to a person (details supplied) in County Cork from 1 December 1993, which were not paid until January 1995; the date on which each increase was due and the amount of the increase on each occasion; and whether any extra amount will be paid for late payment. [12469/95]

The person referred to was formerly employed as a civilian employee craftsman with the Permanent Defence Forces. He retired in March 1985 on normal age grounds. The standard rounds of the Programme for Economic and Social Progress and Programme for Competitiveness and Work, as applicable in the Public Sector, were relevant to this particular case are set out in the following tabular statement:

These rates have been notified to the Office of the Paymaster General. Rates of pension must be calculated on the basis of comparable rate of pensionable pay; pensions cannot be increased other than to reflect actual movements in underlying pay rates.
The person referred to would also be in receipt of the appropriate rate of contributory old age pension from the Department of Social Welfare.
