Written Answers. - Remedial Teacher Statistics.

92 Mr. Kenneally asked the Minister for Education the number of primary schools in County Waterford that have no remedial teaching service; the name of each school; the names of the schools that have applied for this service; the names of the schools comprising each group; and the schools which will have such an appointment made with effect from September 1995. Of the 79 ordinary national schools in County Waterford, 57 now have the services of a remedial teacher, either on a full-time or shared basis. The remaining 22 national schools do not have access to a remedial service.

I allocated 100 remedial teaching posts to the primary school sector in 1994-95. Two of these posts were sanctioned for schools in County Waterford. I recently allocated a further 55 remedial teacher posts to primary schools with effect from September, 1995. These posts were allocated on the basis of priority of need following recommendations from my Department's primary inspectorate and having regard to the data supplied by the schools. One post was allocated to primary schools in County Waterford. This post is to be shared between three schools and the appointment comes into effect from September 1995. The three schools which will benefit from the extension of the service are:
