Vol. 455 No. 5

Written Answers. - Dunshaughlin (County Meath) Garda Station.

Mary Wallace

Question:

101 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Justice if her attention has been drawn to the fact that in November 1993, Dunshaughlin Garda station, County Meath, was formally closed due to the unsuitability of the premises and that a local shop unit was leased on a two year, nine month basis; if her attention has further been drawn in the fact that, in the interim, the new Garda station is to be provided in Dunshaughlin to replace the old station; the progress, if any, being made regarding the plans for the new buildings; the possible start up date of construction; if her attention has been further drawn to the urgency of this matter as the lease of the shop unit is due to expire in 1996; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Question:

106 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Justice the plans, if any, she has regarding the building of a new Garda station at Dunshaughlin, County Meath; if her attention has been drawn to the fact that Dunshaughlin Garda Station has been operating in temporary accommodation for the past year and to the fact that this accommodation is rented on a two year and nine month basis; and if she will make a statement outlining the time scale for the construction, the proposed location and details of the new Garda Station. [12481/95]

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 101 and 106 together.

It is proposed to refurbish the existing Garda station building at Dunshaughlin. A brief of Garda requirements is being finalised at present and will be forwarded to the Office of Public Works in the near future for the final preparation of plans. It is not possible to say exactly when work on this project is likely to commence as this is dependent on overall priorities and the availability of finance. In the meantime, it is envisaged that the gardaí in Dunshaughlin will remain in the temporary leased accommodation which they currently occupy.
