Byrne asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the number of applications received, the number of applications approved, the amount paid and the area of land farmed in respect of each county under the rural environment protection scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. After a slowish start, I am delighted to say that the uptake of REPS has increased significantly. By the end of this year I would anticipate that well over 8,000 farmers will have joined REPS.
