Question:

86 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for the Environment the number of drivers who applied for a first time driving test in 1994; and the percentage of those who passed the test on their first attempt. [13531/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 50 and 86 together.

In all, there were 109,759 applications for driving tests in 1994. A breakdown of these between first time and non-first time applications is not available. Analysis of test results shows that of those who undertook the test in 1994, 58.5 per cent or 52,316 were first time applicants. Of these, 51.4 per cent were successful.
