Vol. 456 No. 1

Written Answers. - Derelict Sites.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

56 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for the Environment if he will consider the introduction of an urban renewaltype scheme for individual derelict houses in disadvantaged towns; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13490/95]

There is no statutory provision for a scheme of this kind, and I have no proposals to change the law in this respect. A wide range of functions and powers in relation to derelict sites and buildings is given to local authorities by the Derelict Sites Act, 1990. I would welcome more effective and more extensive use of these powers by local authorities.
