Vol. 456 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tenant Purchase Scheme.

Noel Ahern

Question:

109 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for the Environment if he will introduce a tenant purchase scheme for the sale of maisonettes and flats. [12602/95]

As announced in the policy document Social Housing — The Way Ahead, local authorities have been asked to give consideration to the sale of maisonettes (particularly those which do not have common areas) where satisfactory arrangements can be devised which do not involve the difficulties that arise in the case of flats. These difficulties were outlined in the policy document and accordingly the new tenant purchase scheme does not provide for the sale of flats. If, however, local authorities can show that the difficulties can be overcome, the matter will be reviewed.
