Batt O'Keeffe

Liam Aylward

Question:

66 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education when work will commence on a new second level school (details supplied) in County Cork; when the work will be completed. [13122/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 33 and 66 together.

A new community college to cater for 750 pupils is being planned for the Glanmire-Riverstown area of Cork. Architectural planning is proceeding and the project is currently at the developed sketch scheme stage. Funds are being made available this year in respect of design fees. However, the question of providing capital funds for building will not arise until the planning process has been fully completed. At this early stage, it is not possible to say when construction work will commence. However, I assure Deputies that every effort will be made to have the planning of the college completed as quickly as possible.
