Vol. 456 No. 5

Written Answers. - Dublin Light Rail Link.

Seamus Brennan

Question:

179 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications whether any of the available European structural fund assistance for the proposed light rail link in Cabinteely, County Dublin, is dependent on the line serving industrial areas such as the Sandyford Industrial Estate; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14237/95]

The Operational Programme for Transport 1994-99 provides that the decision on the light rail links to be constructed during the life span of the Programme will be influenced by major factors such as the relief of traffic congestion, expected levels of peak/off peak demand, social need, ease of construction and financial viability. The operational programme also states that wider DTI strategic objectives such as support for economic development and sustainable job creation, environmental impact and the opportunities for urban renewal and regeneration are factors to be taken into account.
