Vol. 456 No. 7

Written Answers. - Kilmainham (Dublin) Garda District.

Tony Gregory

Question:

108 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice the area covered by the Kilmainham Garda Station, Dublin 8; the population involved; the number of gardaí assigned to the area; and the number of Garda cars in use. [14599/95]

Kilmainham sub-district covers an area of approximately four square kilometres which extends from Dolphins Barn to the top of Bluebell/Kylemore Road and from the River Liffey to the Grand Canal. The population of the sub-district is estimated to be in the region of 24,000. This figure is based on the most recent census figures and also takes account of subsequent building development in the locality.

I am informed by the Garda authorities who are responsible for the detailed deployment of Garda manpower to individual areas that the current strength at Kilmainham Station is 80 members. There are two patrol cars and a motor cycle allocated to the station. The Kilmainham area is regularly patrolled by both foot and mobile units from the local station. These patrols are augmented as required by mobile units from the District Headquarters at Kevin Street.

I would also refer the Deputy to my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 105 of 5 October 1995 in the matter.
