Vol. 456 No. 7

Written Answers. - Land Policy.

Brian Cowen

Question:

149 Mr. Cowen asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry whether he will change the present policy regarding land used formerly for a cow park and which is the subject of a trust, but which is no longer required for or used in accordance with its terms and is currently being disposed of under the Land Purchase Acts so that such lands can be given to the local authority for community and recreational use. [14699/95]

Cowparks or cow-plots are administered under deeds of trust by trustees representing the local communities in which the cowparks are situated. While the Land Commission has no general proposals to transfer such lands to local authorities it will, in situations where the lands are no longer used in accordance with the terms of the trust, dispose of those lands in accordance with the provisions of the Land Purchase Acts. In such cases, the merits of transferring the land to the local authority will be considered.
