Vol. 456 No. 7

Written Answers. - Nursery Stock Sector Investment.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

59 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the proposals, if any, he has for further investment in the nursery stock sector in view of the findings of Teagasc that this sector has considerable growth potential; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14559/95]

Investments in the nursery stock sector qualify for assistance under both the scheme of grant-aid for investments in commercial horticulture and the producer group scheme which form part of the Operational Programme for Agriculture Rural Development and Forestry, 1994-1999. I expect to receive approval from the EU Commission shortly for the re-introduction of the farm improvement programme for horticulture, including nursery stock. I hope that this scheme will be operational before the end of this year.
