Vol. 456 No. 7

Written Answers. - Third Level Governing Bodies.

Mary Wallace

Question:

102 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Education the number of appointments to the governing bodies of third level institutions she has made over the last 24 months; the gender balance of these appointments; the number of appointees who are the direct nominees of groups such as staff associations and student's unions; the number of appointees chosen by the Government; and the gender balance amongst these different groups of appointees. [14672/95]

The information requested by the Deputy is in the form of a tabular statement which I propose to circulate with the Official Report.

The data below are in respect of the total number of appointments made by the Government or the Minister for Education for the period in question.

In the case of the universities, the appointments indicated are made by the Government. In the case of the National College of Art and Design the appointments indicated are made by the Minister for Education.

In the Dublin Institute of Technology-RTC sector appointments are made by the Minister for Education as recommended by relevant vocational education committees on foot of nominations from a range of interest groups.
