Vol. 457 No. 1

Written Answers. - Foreign Trips.

Ivor Callely

Question:

188 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Defence the number and breakdown of foreign trips he has undertaken since taking office; the costs involved; the purpose of the trips; the number and list of people travelling with him; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14932/95]

Since my appointment as Minister for Defence I have undertaken one official trip. This was to Rome from 10 to 14 September 1995 for the purpose of attending the World Military Games in which Irish military personnel were participating. I also met the Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organisation whose headquarters is in Rome to discuss fishery matters. The cost involved was £7,415 in respect of air fares, travel, subsistence and related expenses. I was accompanied by the Secretary of the Department of Defence and by my private secretary.
