Vol. 457 No. 1

Written Answers. - Malahide (Dublin) Marina Development.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

195 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Marine if he has requested that his Department be appraised of plans to further extend the marina development at Malahide, County Dublin, in order that the public nuisance and marine pollution risk caused by accumulated debris from dredging can be avoided in view of previous experience and further to Parliamentary Question No. 10 of Wednesday 13 April 1994. [14963/95]

Any development or extension of development on State foreshore requires a lease or licence under the Foreshore Acts.

There is no application before me for an extension to Malahide Marina. Works on the marina development in Malahide are proceeding under the existing lease agreement. This has involved an accumulation of dredge spoil on the site. The developer has yet to satisfy certain requirements in relation to dumping of the spoil from his current works before a licence for dumping at sea can be issued. My Department is pursuing this matter with the developer.
