Vol. 457 No. 1

Written Answers. - Coastal Erosion Works.

Michael Ahern

Question:

201 Mr. M. Ahern asked the Minister for the Marine if it is his intention to provide funding for coastal erosion works between Youghal and Cobh, County Cork; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15128/95]

Cork County Council, along with the other coastal local authorities, have submitted priority coastal protection proposals for consideration under the Coastal Protection Sub-Programme of the Environmental Services Operational Programme 1994-97. The total value of the proposals submitted far exceeds the £5.1 million funding available under the operational programme therefore it will not be possible to aid all the priority protection proposals submitted.

Some £735,000 is being invested in 1995 to address a number of the proposals submitted to the Department. No works are being undertaken in 1995 at any of the locations identified by Cork County Council, however. These will be considered further during 1996 and the subsequent years of the operational programme.
