Vol. 457 No. 1

Written Answers. - Foreshore Works.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

45 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Marine the requirements for local authorities wishing to construct structures such as concrete pillars supporting outfall pipes below the high water mark on the foreshore; and whether notification has been received by his Department from Fingal County Council of its intention to construct such a structure on the North Beach in Skerries, County Dublin. [14955/95]

Individuals or bodies who wish to erect structures on State owned foreshore require a lease or licence for such works from the Minister for the Marine. Works on foreshore which is not State owned require the Minister's permission to ensure that navigation, fishing rights and the environment are protected.

The Department of the Marine was not notified of Fingal County Council's intention to erect structures on the North Beach in Skerries. Permission is required if the works are erected on foreshore. The Department is pursuing the matter with Fingal County Council and I will notify the Deputy of the outcome.
