Vol. 457 No. 1

Written Answers. - Inquiry into Death.

Éamon Ó Cuív

Question:

70 Éamon Ó Cuív asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs whether he has asked the British authorities to institute an official inquiry into the circumstances of the death of a person (details supplied) in County Galway. [14929/95]

The question relates to a death in London. As I indicated in reply to a previous question on this matter, the case involves a number of complex issues which are essentially matters of law for clarification by solicitors and, if necessary, by the courts.

I most recently met with a member of the family of the deceased on 21 September. I confirmed to him that I would take up with the Home Office any points identified by the family's legal advisers as requiring explanation or clarification. Since last November the Embassy in London has been in contact with the Home Office on aspects of the case.
