Vol. 457 No. 1

Written Answers. - Sligo Urban Renewal.

Eoin Ryan

Question:

106 Mr. E. Ryan asked the Minister for the Environment the reason the urban renewal designation was extended in Sligo town; the criteria used; and if he will give details of his Department's report on the matter. [14834/95]

The designated area in Sligo town was adjusted to enable a limited number of unfinished developments in the former designated area to be completed. It was considered that designation of the limited area in question should be renewed having regard to the criteria that were originally applied and are still applied to designations generally. These relate to the extent of urban decay in an area, its location and general character, the potential for redevelopment, the historical or architectural significance of the area, the need to promote inner urban residential accommodation and the size and status of the town concerned.
