87 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform if he will give a breakdown of foreign travel that he or the Minister of State at his Department has undertaken; the total cost involved; the purpose of such trips; the number and list of passengers who travelled; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The total number of foreign trips I have undertaken since the Government took office is three. The total cost of the three trips was approximately £51,900, of which approximately £3,000 was refunded by the Council of Europe. The amount relating to expenses incurred by me was approximately £14,000 and the balance of approximately £37,900 related to expenses incurred by my officials. The purpose of the trips was (1) to attend a Council of Europe Steering Committee meeting on Equality between Men and Women, on which I was accompanied by two of my officials; (2) to attend a range of official functions in Toronto, on which I was accompanied by my spouse; and (3) to attend the UN Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, on which I was accompanied by six of my officials and the chief executive of the Employment Equality Agency. There is no Minister of State at my Department.

The information requested is set out in the following tables. The travel costs to my Department, excluding costs relating to officials and allowing for EU refunds, is £13,951. Some final hotel bills are still awaited.
