96 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Education the number and cost of staff in her general and private ministerial offices and the general and private ministerial offices of the Minister(s) of State at her Department; the number and cost of contract and part-time staff employed in such offices; the cost of all travel undertaken by her or the Minister(s) of State at her Department since appointment to office outlining the destinations visited, the duration, dates and purpose of the trips; the total expenses incurred by her or the Minister(s) of State at her Department; and the cost and names of consultancy services to her Department and each State body under the aegis of her Department to date in 1995. 97 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education if she will give a breakdown of foreign travel that she or the Ministers of State at her Department have undertaken; the total cost involved; the purpose of such trips; the number and list of passengers who travelled; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I propose to take Questions Nos. 96 and 97 together.

There are 25 civil servants, wholetime equivalent, and eight contract staff employed in my general and private ministerial offices and in those of the Ministers of State in my Department at an annual cost of £387,689 and £202,142 respectively.

The following tables give details on: (a) foreign travel undertaken by myself and the Ministers of State at the Department of Education and the costs incurred to date; (b) consultants employed by my Department since 27 June 1995 and the costs incurred to date — details of consultants engaged prior to that date were supplied to Dáil Éireann in a written reply on 27 June 1995 — No. 109; (c) consultants employed by State agencies under the aegis of my Department:
