Vol. 457 No. 2

Written Answers. - National Conference Centre.

Ivor Callely

Question:

109 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the EU funds available for the National Conference Centre; the position regarding matching funding; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15157/95]

The Tourism Operational Programme 1994-1999 makes provision for EU assistance to private sector projects including a major convention centre, at aid rates up to a maximum of 50 per cent, with a provisional budget for assistance to a National Convention Centre of up to £23 million. The balance of the cost will be met by the successful applicant who will be responsible for providing the matching funding.

Invitations seeking expressions of interest in developing the National Convention Centre were published last month in both the Official Journal of the European Union and the national daily press and the preliminary assessment process is expected to begin by the end of this month.
