Vol. 458 No. 1

Written Answers. - Case Settlement.

David Andrews

Question:

52 Mr. Andrews asked the Minister for Justice the reason the State recently settled a case with a plaintiff arising out of a sexual criminal offence committed by a prisoner on temporary release; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [16521/95]

As a result of advice received from the Attorney General and the Chief State Solicitor regarding this case, in relation to an incident that occurred in January 1986, a settlement of this particular case was negotiated, without admitting liability. A settlement was eventually reached. The settlement included a confidentiality clause which is binding on all parties to the case and therefore it would be improper for me to release details of it. The case was settled without admission of liability.
