Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

141 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Social Welfare the amount of reduction in public spending in his Department as a result of the Government decision announced by the Minister for Finance on 8 June 1995; the number of new posts established since that date in his Department and in agencies under the aegis of his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16802/95]

Discussions are continuing between my Department and the Department of Finance with a view to agreeing the appropriate staffing levels as a result of the Government decision of 8 June 1995. The outcome of these discussions will be reflected in my Department's administrative budget allocation for 1996.

The numbers of new posts sanctioned for my Department and in agencies under its aegis since 9 June 1995 are 18 and six, respectively.
