Vol. 458 No. 2

Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

149 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the amount of reduction in public spending in his Department as a result of the Government decision announced by the Minister for Finance on 8 June 1995; the number of new posts established since that date in his Department and in agencies under the aegis of his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16803/95]

In putting forward its 1996 Estimates requirement, my Department has taken fully into account the Government decision announced by the Minister for Finance on 8 June 1995. As the 1996 Estimates have not yet been finalised, it is too early to indicate the extent of reductions which might arise as a result of the decision.

In relation to new posts, the position as regards Bord Fáilte is that there has been an overall reduction of approximately 70 management and staff numbers arising from the implementation of the voluntary severance package announced earlier this year. However, certain changes have taken place at senior level, principally the appointment of a new international marketing director in September, 1995. In addition, two short-term posts will be created in my Department to monitor the Operational Programme for Tourism, 1994-99.

Neither of the other two agencies under the aegis of my Department — An Bord Tráchtála and CERT — has created new posts since 9 June 1995.

Question:

150 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the amount of reduction in public spending in his Department as a result of the Government decision announced by the Minister for Finance on 8 June 1995; the number of new posts established since that date in his Department and in agencies under the aegis of his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16804/95]

Overall expenditure by my Department will be reduced by £2.080 million on foot of the decision announced by the Minister for Finance on 8 June 1995. A total of two new posts have been established in my Department since 8 June 1995. No new posts have been established in the agencies under the aegis of my Department.
