Vol. 458 No. 2

Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

155 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the amount of reduction in public spending in his Department as a result of the Government decision announced by the Minister for Finance on 8 June 1995; the number of new posts established since that date in his Department and in agencies under the aegis of his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16805/95]

In response to Government Decision S.28669, of 6 June 1995, announced on 8 June 1995, my Department reduced its net estimate for 1996 by £3.245 million.

No posts have been created in the State bodies under my aegis since that date.

The 1995 budget provided additional funding for new posts required to implement the charter of rights for farmers and other essential national and EU requirements. By 9 June 1995, arrangements had been made to fill 180 of these new posts created in fulfilment of the budgetary decision. As these posts came within the terms of the Government decision of 6 June 147 have been filled to date and the balance will be filled shortly.
