Vol. 458 No. 2

Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

168 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the amount of reduction in public spending in his Department as a result of the Government decision announced by the Minister for Finance on 8 June 1995; the number of new posts established since that date in his Department and in agencies under the aegis of his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16806/95]

The purpose of the Government announcement was to stabilise staff numbers and this has been achieved in my Department. While public expenditure levels are always under scrutiny it is not possible to attribute any specific reductions in such expenditure to the Government announcement referred to by the Deputy.
