Vol. 458 No. 2

Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

62 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Taoiseach the amount of reduction in public spending in his Department as a result of the Government decision announced by the Minister for Finance on 8 June 1995; the number of new posts established since that date in his Department and agencies under the aegis of his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16798/95]

In the context of the 1996 budget and departmental Estimates, expenditure proposals from all Departments are currently being considered by the Government. It would be inappropriate, therefore, to provide details of public spending related to my Department in advance of the Government's decisions on these matters.

Since 8 June 1995, one new temporary post at principal level has been sanctioned for my Department, to head the secretariat to the Local Government Devolution Commission. To put in place arrangements for the next census of population in April 1996, a total of 60 temporary staff have been sanctioned, since 8 June, for the Central Statistics Office. Two new posts have been sanctioned for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
