Written Answers. - Rural Renewal Study.
A consultant was engaged in 1994 to carry out a study of rural renewal and his work is progressing. I am informed that his report is expected to be finalised in the near future.
It was apparently envisaged that the committee on rural renewal would be established when the consultant had prepared a draft report, but this was overtaken by events and the committee has not, to date, been established.
The Minister of State for Western Development and Rural Renewal has recently undertaken an initiative in relation to an integrated approach to the provision of public services. A report has been prepared and pilot projects are expected to be selected shortly.
