Written Answers. - Galway Waterways.

Robert Molloy

Question:

98 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that untreated raw sewage is being openly discharged into canals and waterways in the Galway city centre area and that an acute problem has arisen from an aesthetic and health point of view due to recent long periods of dry weather and low flow in the waterways; the assistance, if any, that will be given to Galway Corporation to enable it intercept these discharges and route them through the city's sewerage system for subsequent treatment at the proposed new plant; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16691/95]

Galway Corporation is at present developing a proposal for an interceptor sewer at the locations referred to by the Deputy. This will be considered by my Department when it is received.
