Vol. 458 No. 2

Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

103 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for the Environment the amount of reduction in public spending in his Department as a result of the Government decision announced by the Minister for Finance on 8 June 1995; the number of new posts established since that date in his Department and in agencies under the aegis of his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16799/95]

The estimates process for 1996 is ongoing, and expenditure allocations for the different programmes will be determined by the Government in this context in the near future.

Since the date referred to, 26 posts, the majority of which will be filled on a contract basis, were approved in the Environmental Protection Agency; sanction to the creation of these posts had been sought well before that date, and many of them will be self financing. No new posts have been established in any of the other bodies under the aegis of my Department or in the Department since 8 June.
