Vol. 458 No. 2

Written Answers. - Residential Care Query.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

111 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the plight of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 8 who is an ex-pupil at Saint John of Gods, Islandbridge, Dublin 8, who was assessed in Wood-lawn, Lusk, County Dublin, and deemed in aid of therapeutic residential care and who is now without schooling because Saint John of Gods cannot control him and the Eastern Health Board have no residential care unit to cater for his needs; and the steps, if any, she will take to resolve this matter. [16698/95]

I am aware of the case to which the Deputy refers. Residential placement is primarily a matter for the health authorities. The educational placement of the child is currently being investigated by my Department's primary inspectorate in consultation with the health authorities. I will advise the Deputy of the outcome of these investigations as soon as they have been completed.
