Question:

120 Mr. Davern asked the Minister for Education if the report which she commissioned from the Combat Poverty Agency, in order to provide a detailed study of current approaches to the identification and support of pupils in disadvantaged areas has been received; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [16840/95]

I propose to take Question Nos. 115, 119 and 120 together.

Earlier this year I commissioned the Combat Poverty Agency to conduct a detailed study of current approaches to the identification and support of pupils in disadvantaged areas. The criteria used to determine eligibility for inclusion in the disadvantaged areas scheme are among the matters covered by the study. A report on the outcome of this study has now been received in my Department and is currently being considered. This report will provide a basis for development of future approaches in this area.

I am aware that the school referred to by Deputy Davern has applied for inclusion in the disadvantaged areas scheme. The needs of this school will be considered in the context of any expansion of the disadvantaged areas scheme which is undertaken.
