Vol. 458 No. 4

Written Answers. - Cattle Tags.

Peadar Clohessy

Question:

40 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the companies which have tendered for the manufacture and supply of new cattle identity ear tags; the annual cost of such tags; the type of tags which are to be used; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17045/95]

Nine companies submitted one or more tenders before the closing date of 20 September 1995 for the supply of cattle eartags to the Department in accordance with the conditions set out in the Department's request for tenders. A further eight companies submitted tenders for the calf birth registration service only. The tenders are currently being assessed on the basis of objective criteria set out in the request for tenders document. Following that assessment, I hope to be in a position to make an announcement shortly which will provide information on the successful company, the type of tags to be used and the cost.
