Vol. 458 No. 4

Written Answers. - Planting of Broadleaf Species.

Robert Molloy

Question:

42 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the proportion of broadleaf species planted in each year since 1990 as a percentage of total tree planting; the reason the broadleaf tree planting target of 10 per cent has not yet been achieved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14666/95]

The proportion of broadleaf planting as a percentage of afforestation in each year since 1990 is as follows:

Year

%

1990

2.4

1991

2.6

1992

6.3

1993

11.1

1994

21.4

In 1993 the percentage of broadleaves exceeded 10 per cent and exceeded 20 per cent last year. I expect this trend to continue in 1995.
