Vol. 458 No. 4

Written Answers. - Rate Support Grant.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

51 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for the Environment his views on whether the allocation of a rate support grant to local authorities below the rate of inflation is a setback to local administration and development. [17101/95]

The rate support grant represents only one element in the overall funding system of local authorities which is based on a range of Exchequer grants, combined with a variety of local income sources, including rates and charges for services. Over the last three years, the rate support grant to local authorities has generally increased at least in line with the annual rate of inflation.
