Vol. 458 No. 4

Written Answers. - Disadvantaged Areas.

John Ellis

Question:

75 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the plans, if any, he has for the introduction of a super severely disadvantaged status; and when he will make a formal submission to Brussels for this new status for extremely disadvantaged areas. [17082/95]

The criteria by which areas would be selected for a third category of very severely disadvantaged areas is under examination at present. When these have been finalised, the areas which satisfy the criteria will be selected and a proposal will be prepared for transmission to the EU Commission.

It is my intention to have this proposal lodged in the Commission by early next year.
